The Loop

What is the Loop?

The loop is a full 360 degree rotation in pitch - if that sounds complicated, just look at the animation below.

The Loop

Animation by Karaya One of the Flying Pigs

How do you do the Loop?

Execute the Loop by pulling back on the joystick and maintaining back pressure as the aircraft climbs, inverts, dives, and then returns to level flight. At this point center the stick and recover to straight and level flight to complete the loop.

Worr on the Loop...

"You execute the loop by maintaining your wings level in a constant climb which at mid point will progress into a dive. The trick is to manage the torque effect from the engine as you approach the mid point in the vertical, as your engine will begin to corkscrew your aircraft counter clockwise. You will need to add right rudder and roll right in anticipation of this loop.

You should also master the loop at very low speeds down to 130 IAS initial speed into the loop. Yes, it can be done. But contrary to your first impulse pull the stick less and not more as you enter the stall horn. Let the engine do the work and not the elevator. This is called "hanging it on the prop".

The loop is best used in offensive moves. When used defensively, most people die at the top of their loops, so it's best to not use them when your opponent is working for a gun solution. Instead tuck that nose down."
